HOMELANDS is a live concert to mark World Refugee Day. The concert will feature some of the most beautiful art-song ever written, by composers including Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Sergei Rachmaninov and Gabriel Fauré – exploring the theme of exile and lost homelands. The concert will also include readings of poetry from some of the world’s greatest poets.

The concert includes a wonderful line-up of artists. Acclaimed tenor Ian Bostridge CBE and soprano Mary Bevan MBE will perform alongside Royal Academy Opera bass Wonsick Oh – to be accompanied by Royal Academy pianist Aron Goldin. BAFTA, Olivier and Tony award-winning actor, Sir Simon Russell Beale, will be performing the poetry

HOMELANDS is raising funds for the 30 BIRDS FOUNDATION, which is evacuating vulnerable Afghan schoolgirls from Afghanistan to Canada. This group of refugees has had the humanitarian support of the Canadian and Pakistani governments, The Prince’s Trust (founded by HRH Prince of Wales) and the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights.

HOMELANDS has so far raised £200,000 towards a target of £525,000. We welcome donations of any size in support of this cause.

Tickets for the event can be purchased directly from the Royal Academy of Music. However, places are limited, so we encourage early booking.

In the event that you are unable to attend the concert in person, the Royal Academy of Music will livestream the concert for an online audience.

The 30 Birds Foundation

The 30 Birds Foundation was set up by a team of eight international citizens – journalists, lawyers, human rights activists and Afghan ex-pats – who have evacuated more than 400 Afghan schoolgirls and their family members from Afghanistan to a new life in Canada. All funds raised by HOMELANDS will be used to evacuate the remaining 210 girls, currently in hiding in Pakistan while their futures are negotiated. These include 50 vulnerable single girls aged 18-25, who were forced to flee Afghanistan without their families.

We thank you for any support you can provide to help these stranded young people, each one waiting to recommence their education and start a new life in peace.

When donating please enter “Homelands” as a reference for your support.
